Check for Pulse and Breathing

See if the person is breathing, or has a pulse in the neck.

If not - Call Emergency Services

In South Africa, dial 10177 or 112 immediately.

Open Airway

Ask someone to open the airway by gently tilting their head back.

Start CPR

Begin CPR immediately. Push hard and fast with the heel of your hand in the center of the chest at a rate of 110 beats per minute.

Get the AED

Send someone to retrieve the nearest AED while you continue CPR.

Use the AED

Turn it on and follow the voice prompts. The AED will guide you through each step.

Yes! AEDs are designed to be used by anyone. They provide voice instructions and will only deliver a shock if needed.

Do I need training?

While training is helpful, AEDs are designed for untrained users. The device will guide you through the process.

Are all AEDs available 24/7?

No. Some AEDs are in buildings with limited hours. Check the location notes for availability information.

How do I report a new AED location?

Use our Contact page to submit new AED locations. Include the address and any access details.

What if the app doesn't show my location?

Make sure location services are enabled for your browser. You can also manually search by moving the map.
